A democratic Voice for Cortland

Our democracy works better when the community is informed and engaged. With the Cortland Standard stopping publication, Cortland has become a news desert. And while we don’t propose this Substack is a newspaper or a news organization, a few concerned citizens are coming together to keep the community informed on local issues and the decisions of our local government and school district. While we may identify as (capital D) Democrats, we will continually promote (small d) democratic values.

We’ll be attending the Cortland County Legislature meetings, the City of Cortland Common Council meetings, and the Cortland Enlarged School District Board of Education meetings and sharing out highlights with commentary and analysis. We’ll share information on issues that matter to the community and post opportunities for you to have your voice heard.

As we witness the slide of the United States into an authoritarian government without regard to the truth, the rule of law, or due process, we need to be aware of the decisions of our leaders at all levels of govenment — from city to county to state to national.
